Opportunity posted by Marc Tanenabaum: "Every now and again something comes up that I want to share at 38minutes from my faraway perch in San Francisco.

My company, Rocket Ninja, Inc., is hiring a Games Systems Designer (i.e., a games designer who actually understands the fiddly mathy bits). My CEO tells me we'll consider people from anywhere on the planet, so I reckon Scotland very nearly qualifies!

Just to be clear: this position is for a number cruncher, someone who chews and swallows game systems whole, someone who likes resource balancing and understands iterative development, someone who will take our cool tech and awesome artwork and convert it into (a) fun and (b) cash.

We're a well-funded startup doing social games for Facebook, we've got a lot of interesting tech and -- let's not be coy -- we're just awesome folks to hang out with. So if you (or someone you know) is a Maths whiz, loves gaming, and would like to try living in what is frankly one of the greatest cities on Earth, please send me a note and your CV through my 38minutes account.

Thanks!
Marc Tanenbaum"

Would that need a work permit and the like to be organised?

Suppose need a flash/web games programmer rather than usual :-(
Christopher,

My company will organize a visa/permit for the right candidate (i.e., we'll sponsor the designer into the US). As to Flash/Web programming capabilities, that would be a plus but it's really not what we're after. We already have a team of very qualified Flash devs, including myself. We'll expose the variables, provide A/B testing capabilities, build you tools, etc. We want someone who can run the numbers in Excel (or whatever) and iteratively tweak for game balance, retention, virality, monetization, etc.

If that describes you, feel free to apply! :c)

(BTW, I'll post the official job req from the office later today.)
More developer rather than designer. Good luck with your search.
The official job req:

Lead Systems Designer/Game Designer
Rocket Ninja is looking for a Lead Systems Designer/Game Designer with kick-ass math skills to take charge of our Game Systems team. We're looking for a knowledgeable gamer, who loves gaming and the creation of games, who sees the numbers and models more than the story or the skin.

Own game systems from design to launch. Thereafter work tightly with monetization and engineering to iteratively hone products for improved virality and retention.

Develop and maintain models representing game systems for multiple games.

Analyze creative documents towards development of more effective game mechanics (thereby creating better virality, retention and sales).

Write documents detailing complex systems.

Requirements:
3+ years industry gaming experience.

Experience making complex Excel math models representing game systems.

Strong skills and real-world experience in balancing game systems.

Familiarity with the social games market and existing social games.

Experience iterating gameplay based on requested metric data.

Bonus Qualifications:
MySQL
Google Analytics or comparable metric experience
