Digital Economy Bill - Lords report stage day three
5 hours ago
Desperate times, desperate measures. Having managed such relationships over a number of years, between central government and media proprietors and editors, this is a complex discussion. Would certainly keep Kevin Dunion's office busy.

Good points Anne. Am sure it probbly depends on what they're looking at and, more significantly, what their real word networks and activities are. Just like "normal" depression, there may also be a pre-disposition to it. That's why this would be a r…

I read this too. Its an example of where journalists look at research and draw conclusions disproportionate to the evidence. The research showed that 18 people out of a sample of 1315 were 'internet addicts' and that they were depressed. Yup, addic…

The Cyber Research Centre

The wonderfully named Cyber Research Centre (University of Central Lancashire) in the news this week on the issue of internet safety for children and the new campaign by CEOP

I recall speaking to someone in government circles (only) a couple of years ago about this form of educational campaign and their view was, well, you can probably guess the rest.

Excessive internet use linked to depression

A Leeds University study (released a couple of days ago) finds that people who are classified as internet addicts are more likely to be depressed than non-addicted users. This a serious and thought provoking piece (Guardian) and, in correlation to recent research on how long many youngsters spend online, it highlights an important issue that requires more funding to help develop programmes and suppor… Continue

Why TellyLinks.com may prove to be a catalyst in convergence of technology by Arvind Salwan, New Media Corp

First and foremost, a bit of a disclaimer. Although New Media Corp and its senior Director, Arvind Salwan, have been involved in the launch of this new service, this article serves to provide a broader context to the types of new, specialised service such as TellyLinks.com, and aims to look a little closer at why this is the next evolutionary step that simply mirrors human (consume… Continue

Arvind, it’s a fantastic idea and it’s one that I’ve been pondering since you posted it yesterday.
Firstly, I’m not aware of anything that already exists.
Could online networking be the next step in the ‘outreach’ (academic/SME engagement) evolution? Personally speaking, I feel it’s the ideal vessel. I’ve never been comfortable with ‘speed networking’ events or the touchy feely participatory ice-breakers at networking events.
Through forums such as these you can peruse those in the ‘room’ via their profile, identify exactly who you wish to meet and have an exchange in a relaxed manner.

The concept of linking into the Business School is a gem. ‘Business’ is the commonality across all organisations from the sole trader to the government. (OK so a sole trader can’t be termed an organisation but I’m sure you get what I mean.) It can always be done better and more efficiently.
Accessing the academic knowledge base and creating new links via online networking seems the obvious next step.

The digital coffee morning began as an Edinburgh phenomenon when local digital enthusiasts from informatics and digital agencies met in George Street's Centotre, cafe in 2007. Glasgow followed in 2008. Dundee already had its own drunken variants and now it's Stirling's turn.
