Dave Sapien commented on Nicola Sinclair's blog post 'London calling: and missing the point for UK games'
"I agree entirely Brian. Kids might be better served if we instill a "entrepreneurial flair" early on in life rather than incubate them in a standardized structure set up with old models in mind. I do like the idea of a hub thats more like…"

Haptics

Today I was testing Anarkik3D( Ann Marie Shillito ) new software package cloud9.

Its a haptic 3D modeling package that uses a servo controlled unit to control the movements of your cursor in the 3d environment, but more importantly it returns the feedback from the computer. Allowing you to literally feel what your modeling.

The software is still in an alpha state, so I wont comment on it too much on it, save from saying its a fantastic experience.

Actually feeling your way round… Continue

Global Game Jamming

Last weekend I took part in a three day game creation extravaganza called the Global Games Jam.

In the event you are given 15 minutes to come up with a concept then pitch it in front of your fellow participants, not everyone pitches, just those with an idea.

Then we all group together in a chaotic sort of way, finding groups that you like, ideas you like or skills that are needed, which seems to work really well.

That all happens around… Continue

Games and kids.

I've always been an advocate for video games, not just for children but for all ages.

Seeing all the talent and exquisite multitude of skills that each game must have for it to be remotely playable or even enjoyable, I do find the ignorant (and bias) point of view of all the news outlets quite repellent.

Not that all reporters are on a witch hunt, but I do feel that the general usage of video games as a scapegoat is not only unfair but… Continue

Well I'm only finishing up my third year at Glasgow so I havn't had much experiance as of yet. I've did a few Gui's using Java Swing, namely a chess program and simple calender/diary. I've also did various web stuff using basic html/css & php/javascript. I'm at the moment attempting to get some sort of summer internship to broaden my skills and hoping to learn flash once my exams are out of the way.

Next year I'm taking a course that is mobile phone HCI and from what I've heard I'll be creating things for the android and iphone which I'm very very excited about.

How long have you been in the industry? Where did you start off?

Well hello, and thank you for the very kind introduction.

Where in Glasgow are you from?

From what I can see you seem like someone I'd love to pick brains with as I am a very young and aspiring user interface designer but have absolutely no idea where to start in this big bad world!

Dave, we're looking for a local freelance designer who can help turn our photoshop designs into really professional looking photoshop designs. We need some inspiration....and I like some of the characters you've got in your drawings...we need more personality in our brand.
We're a mobile software company in Hillington looking for some help. If you're interested, would you drop me a note? Cheers, Andrew
