Games Systems Designer - San Francisco

Every now and again something comes up that I want to share at 38minutes from my faraway perch in San Francisco. My company, Rocket Ninja, Inc., is hiring a Games Systems Designer (i.e., a games designer who actually understands the fiddly mathy bits). My CEO tells me we'll consider people from anywhere on the planet, so I reckon Scotland very nearly qualifies!Just to be clear: this position is for a number cruncher, someone who chews and swallows game systems whole, someone who likes resource…See More

Hi all,I've moved from Edinburgh to San Francisco and my company, a small startup, is actively seeking talented people from around the world to join us. I'm on my way...

...not exactly from misery to happiness. It is with very mixed emotions that I inform my friends here in Scotland that my wife and I are returning to San Francisco. I've been offered a very fine job with Slide, in the siliconiest bit of the City, an offer I don't think I can readily pass up. I'll be pursuing several of my favourite things: Flash, games, and of course social networking.

When we first conceived the idea… Continue

Twitter correspondent from 1666

Samuel Pepys, diarist and wartime correspondent of the year 1666, offers up his observations regarding life and war in "real time" via a Twitter feed. (@samuelpepys)

I'm not a huge Twitter fan. In fact, I often think of dropping off the service altogether. But this really tickles me: Pepys' tweets are taken straight from his actual diaries (though edited to 140 character bursts of course) and… Continue

Converting Tweets into Donations

I've been helping Mike Coulter and Jon Mountjoy strategize and raise money for the intrepid firefighters currently engaged in the 300 miles trek. Sadly, while some 400-odd people are following them on Twitter, and one or two large-scale re-tweets have gone out, their actual donation income has been rather thin. So the question arises: is Twitter an appropriate… Continue

Beta of new casual game

This has nothing directly to do with social media, Wikiup, or anything else really. I just felt like I needed to write a game as I hadn’t done one in a long time. I just posted the beta version of my almost-education game: http://www.wikiupgames.com/games/higgs/

I'll be adding in a few new features: preloader and high score screen, particularly, but would value any… Continue

Things up in Thurso are going good, musically. I've been rubbing shoulders with the great and the good of the international folk scene, and now I'm off to watch a funk highly regarded funk band, "James Brown is Annie", consisting of a bunch of bunch of folk I also happen to know.

The Scottish music scene really is very small!
