What do they say about food for the soul...
We are doing loads of work with our fab clients
Qmorphic - and because they have a division that is a music video factory (
Popmorphic) we get to hear some breaking bands.
The favourite at

Part three of a series of posts on the elements that have made the best propositions to 4iP work well.
One the big questions about 4iP is what the 'iP' stands for. On a simple level, it's Innovation for the Public. On a metaphorical level it's Internet Protocol, the technology that we're interested in making things… Continue

All too often I hear about ideas where the success of the project lies in having a large number of users – the usual
“and then with all these users it works amazingly like this and that and opens up the potential for so and so”. This is the point where in mid-conversation I frown; I’m not listening to the potential, I’m listening to the mechanisms that get it to the point of providing this potential.
This is really a simple thing: a huge following of people can pretty…

I had been talking to my friend Chris Willshaw after Ewans 4ip presentation at Edinburgh Uni business school last night and had mentioned how essentially a football crowd is a 'Flash Mob' in waiting. Lo and behold today I find that a group of researchers from the University of Glasgow are set to revolutionise football terraces with the help of mobile technology.

Channel 4's fledgling animation site 4mations.tv has been offline since Tuesday while the broadcaster struggles with various "editorial and procedural issues" that have allowed controversial content onto the user-generated animation site.
Sensitive to post-"Sachsgate" criticism, the broadcaster is understood to have pulled the site to remove a handful of clips designed for adult viewers, including a shoot 'em up game called "Mr Mucky" set in a crack den that included S&M imagery…

It's not about whether or not you like twitter, it's not about who you are, it's not about how many people know who you are. Get your
kvetch on.

Kvetch is an anonymous oracle of complaint. Kvetches are displayed randomly and anonymously. There are no permalinks and no search mechanism. Just enjoy the moment.
What? A Kvetch is a funny complaint. This site randomly displays kvetches sent via Twitter.
Why?…

It looks like Hubdub is proving to be quite a challenge to Digg.com, last year’s winner of Mashable’s Open Web Awards for Best Social News site. According to Mashable’s blog post today:
In the week since kicking off the voting round of The Open Web Awards, there have been nearly 40,000 votes cast across our 26 different categories. In Social News, last year’s winner Digg is seeing strong competition from upstarts HubDub and HARO… Continue

Last summer, I spent a few months in London and once happened to go along to a small event for techies called the "Hacker Meetup". It was hosted by Ian Hogarth from Songkick (a London based startup) at their office. A bunch of tech startups and freelance developers came along and chatted, demo'd their projects and then we went for dinner. While this sounds very simple, I was amazed at how productive this time was – I made some really good connections and found everyone around me doing…

Then you could do worse than joining the brand new ‘

WANTED group is intended to be a place where companies that need/want some additional resource and/or skills for their 4iP project can post their…

It can be very hard when you are in a team of one. Whatever problems come up there is nobody else to go to for help. You are it!
I've been coding this game on and off for nearly 4 years now. It started out in JBuilder 3.5 and Java 1.3 and has been designed in JDeveloper, Sun Studio, Eclipse and now finally Netbeans. It has had to be changed to work in each new Java versions. The worst part of Java is always the deployment step. Its ok making jars and exe s for small applications but when…

So you're moving studio to a new bit of town and you want to raise your profile in the local neighbourhood so what do you do? Throw a welcoming party? Have a party in a local watering hole? Sell cookies door to door? How about campaign on the streets to raise 5000 names on a petition to get you ejected from the premises. This has to be one of the best ways I've seen creatives use to make an excuse to show off their portfolio of…

SAN FRANCISCO --
Rather than wasting their time, children who gab on Facebook or play online games are gaining valuable social skills and learning some technology basics, according to a study to be released today.
The report, sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation, contradicts the idea held by many educators, parents and policymakers that children should be blocked from online social networks… Continue

Jon was appointed as Channel 4's Director of New Media and Technology in November 2007 and has the task of expanding Channel 4’s presence in online digital media. Jon is responsible for overseeing the 4iP fund while also sitting on the board of ‘Project Kangaroo’, the BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4 video-on-demand joint venture. Prior to… Continue

True or hoax?]
In a striking display of the power of live video, Abraham K. Biggs committed suicide on Wednesday while broadcasting himself on video site Justin.tv. As we understand it from various forum posts, the 19-year-old Floridian was apparently egged on by commenters on Justin.tv and fellow forum users on bodybuilding.com. Biggs overdosed on pills while on camera and appeared to be…
