What's the next big step for YouTube? We all know the phenomenon that is YouTube was bought for $1.65bn in Google shares because of the revenue opportunity from viral marketing. But there has to be better bucks to be earned from this medium. Sustainable and meaningful businesses are built on something at the core that delivers real social value, there has to be something more fundamentally valuable that watching the Evolution of Dance, entertaining as it is.

Something about 4Learning meets YouTube meets a deep rooted pedagogy of social learning.

I'm coming from the opinion that Public Media still has to have a financial model behind it beyond advertising and the public purse.

Some folks at the School of Informatics in Edinburgh are developing a learning resource that builds on a YouTube style medium and allows for interaction and learning that is one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one and many-to-many.

It's called "Vicarious Learning— an initiative to develop a new kind of learning resource" but has a much more catchy name YouTute.

We'd be interested in this concept getting thrashed around on the 38minutes community.
