Over the last few years we have seen much more competition in the web copywriting marketplace. Finances may be tight, but should we really be looking to dramatically reduce writing costs? Malcolm Davison of writingfortheweb.co.uk highlights some jaw dropping prices, and recalls an unhappy turn of events for some freelance writers and how he crossed swords with some Whitehall mandarins.

The only way to stop this is for all writers to stop taking work with agencies and clients who won't pay for it. This is a tall order I know. But, educating new writers is something I feel very strongly about. Unless we help the newbies refuse to work for peanuts, clients won't stop offering them as payment!
