Yes, well I had it declared as a special item but am still prepared for increased costs if I have to use the insurance. I'm hoping that the airport will see sense and cover the lost laptop but, if not, I'll be first and foremost using legal cover (which does not affect no claims) to chase them through court for it. Here's hoping I don't have to.

I too fell asleep (after drinking of course) with my laptop plugged in & open on my couch. This was before magnetic power sources and I must have moved around and without waking up, pushed my mac onto the flooor completeling bending and jamming the the powercable where it plugs into the computer. Luckily the mac was okay, but I didn't have a power sourse for weeks.

Also the computer before that, I had a waterbottle explode in my bag soaking my laptop. Thankfully once it dried for a week it was fine.

Luckily both of mine were still usable as they weren't insured. Being more careful with my latest purchase!

I fell asleep watching a film in bed on my laptop (classy, but it gets better...) I was holding a drink (cider, classier still...) and spilled it over the laptop. The laptop was written off and I got a new one on the insurance.
The person on the phone thought it was quite funny that i'd spilled an apple product onto an Apple product...
The problem was when I came to renew my policy. The claim sent the premium thru the roof so I shopped around. Of the half dozen or so I phoned (recognisable companies) 3 were not at all interested in my business because i'd claimed on a laptop that was valued at over £500. (it was actually £650)
I suppose most domestic PC laptops can be bought for under £500 so that's the rule of thumb. In all cases I got referred to a supervisor before a policy could be agreed.
So, if you do get insurance be very clear what it is you have and it's replacement value otherwise you might be wasting your time.
And don't watch late night movies in bed with a pint :)
